2000 – 2001 HOMEWORKS Once upon a time people used to buy original albums such as records, cassettes and CDs. But now, alternatives started to be and they are very dangerous for singers. First of all music firms make their own counterfeit cassettes and CDs . It’s strange but true. They have got a reason. They publish and sell counterfeit albums, then they say “Your album isn’t sold” to singers. So they give less money to the singers. Secondly other people copy various counterfeit cassettes and sell them. People see the cassettes in the streets and think “I just like X singer’s Y song. So why should I buy X singer’s all songs? There are other singers’ famous songs in this cheap cassette, too”. Thirdly music markets copy songs to people by people’s order. For example, you make a list of your favorite songs and give it to one of the music markets. If you want cassette, they copy them to cassette. If you want CD, they copy them to CD. However, they are not very quality. Even though it’s very enjoyable because this album’s productor is yourself. Fourthly counterfeit CDs… People call this CDs which is like original CDs as “Pirate CDs”. They are very popular. Because they have got the same songs and cover (even though there are not lyrics) but they are very cheap. Finally, the most famous alternative to original albums are MP3s. If a person has got a computer and internet, he can download songs which they want easily. Out of date, people weren’t be able to listen MP3s outside home. But now there is MP3 player. To sum up, nobody will be able to skip Michael Jackson’s Thriller record.

THE FIFTEENTH CHARACTER Sally Brown works at Happy Hills in her holiday.
One day, she becomes a cat. She usually makes tea or helps the children but that day she is a cat.
Her favourite singer is Zapp. Zapp comes to Happy Hills that day. Sally becomes happy.
There is a CD which includes Zapp’s new song in his pocket. But someone stoles this CD. Police come and everybody tries to find it.
Sally looks at “Jobs For Today” letter. There are fourteen characters there but there is not fifteenth character Charlie Clown.
Sally says it to the police and the police arrest the woman who is in Charlie Clown.
The singer Zapp becomes happy and invites Sally to his concert.

MY LAST HOLIDAY Every summer,I go to Saros.We have a summer house there.I lived my last holiday in last summer,so you can understand that I am going to tell about my last summer.
I also went to Didim.We go there nearly every year,because my grandmother has got a summer house,there and we miss each other.I like Didim,too.Saros is quite but Didim is very crowded and loud.
Also,I went to İzmir.İzmir is nicer than İstanbul.
In Didim,I met my uncle,aunt and cousins.I have missed them,because we didn’t see each other for 2 years.They live in Austria.
I swam very much.I like swimming.I also like climbing to rocks but this year I didn’t do that,because I was afraid of earthquakes.
Also I was busy because I was dealing with my university results.I wan IKU and now I am studying International Relations.In fact,I am studying just English and Turkish.

TURKEY Turkey is a beautiful country with a rich culture.It is between Europe and Asia.Also it is near Africa.People call it “bridge Asia to Europe” for this reason.There are sandy beaches, bridges, 4 seas,historical places, interesting places, every religions’ temples, kindy people, discos, etc.
Every year many tourists visit there.They enjoy their holiday at Turkey.
“Turkish people are ugly” says Özlem Kaymaz.But Turkish men are hand-some and Turkish girls are beautiful.That’s why tourists marry with Turks.There are different people.You can’t say “Turks have got black hair” or “Turks are white”…Because,I said it before,they are different.But most of Turkish people have got brown hair,brown eyes.Most of Turks are short,but most of new teenagers are tall.”Turkish people are very kind and hand-some/beautiful” say tourists who visited Turkey.
Most people live in apartments in Turkey.Most of Turks stay in İstanbul.Men do different jobs.Once open a time,women in Turkey were just a house-wife.But now,they are successful in different jobs.
Family life is very important in Turkey.If you don’t kiss your elder relatives’ hands,they often argue with you.
Turkish food is very delicious.Maybe,the most delicious food is Turkish food.For example;dürüm,kebab,shish,döner,içli köfte (meat inside),etc.But some Turks have got ulcer,so they can’t always eat them. Tourists of Turkey say “Turkish food is great.I didn’t eat any food like Turkish food before”.
Turks do many festivals like Sweet Bairam,Republic Day,Christmas,Victim Bairam, Children’s Day, Young People’s and Sports Day, Victory Day,etc.
There are many holidays,too. “My favorite holiday is the Summer Holiday because it is longer than other holidays” says Turgay Suat Tarcan.
Turkey is a wonderful country.Its faswcinating sights,rich cultural history and warm-hearted people make it unique.

I am studying International Relations at Kültür University.I normally should see International Relations lessons,but now I am studying just English and Turkish.I mean I am studying at prepearing class.
Now,it is weekend.I usually go to school but on weekends I don’t go to school.So now I am not at school.
What can I say more?In fact,I always do the same things.If it was summer,maybe I could say the differences.
Oh!I thought about something.On weekdays,I am a student but on weekends I am a webmaster.I make web site but I don’t earn any money yet.

I am going to travel the world by plane. It is my first travelling. I’m waiting for my plane. But I’m not wasting my time. What am I doing? I’m playing my favourite game-people-watching. Whenever I have the time, I watch other people.
Take that for example. A young woman is looking at her watch. I remember her somewhere but where?
Oh! I remembered her. She is a famous historical trace smuggler like Ayşegül Nadir. The police were looking for her. She is looking to her watch, because she is escaping from the police. She thinks that the police may be come to the airport for her.
But her hair is not real. Her real hair is blonde. She doesn’t want people to remember her. I understood that, because her hair is thick. That is my evidence!
I have bought a newspaper. Here is her photo. She lives in İstanbul and here is İstanbul Airport.
Now, I am calling the police with my mobile phone.
She is always smoothing her fake hair. At last, the police have been came. They are arresting her.
Oh no! I missed my plane! I have forgotten my journey.

The girl who travels in my dreams should be beautiful. She shouldn’t be fat. She should have blue or green eyes and blonde or light brown hair. Her skin should be light. She should be pretty and kind. The most important thing is she should understand me! She should get on well with me. She should love me. Her height shouldn’t be too short or too tall. But she should be slim. I should be in another world when I watch her eyes. She should be a non-smoker. Her age should be 17 to 20. She should like music. But she shouldn’t be hick or yahoo. She should be modern. She shouldn’t be conceited but she should be very attractive. She shouldn’t be bigot, she should love Atatürk and understand his ways. She should be sexy and chic,too. She should have long hair. Her hair must be tidy and chic.

REASONS FOR CRIMES Crimes have been the biggest problem since the first person was born. First crime’s owner was Adem’s son. He had killed his own brother. Lots of crimes are done everyday. It has got many reasons. I will write about just a few reason.
First of all jealousy is a reason. I have told about the first crime and its reason was jealousy. Because he fell in love with the girl whom his brother had decided to marry with… Today killers can be a jealous. For example, his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend can be more hand-some and happy. Or a relative&friend can be jealous with his/her rich relative&friend and steal the rich person’s all money.
Secondly unemployment is a big problem for crimes. Maybe it is the biggest reason for crimes. Unemployment people kill, steal, kidnap, etc. for money.
Thirdly being abnormal, pervented or being in flood is a reason. Can a body explain something else about transgressions? Of course, no!
Fourthly madness is a very big reason. A insane man can do everything. For example we usually read this article in newspapers; “A man became crazy and cut his family into pieces.”
Finally threats and blackmails can be a reason for crimes. For example they say “Steal Filiz Akın’s chests if you want your son Yumurcak to live” to Ediz Hun. But a person can kill blackmails’ owner, too
To sum up we should give jobs to everybody and encourage people to go to psychologists’ places which we should open more.

1- Çok önemli bir sınavım var. Ben sınava yetişmek için evden erken çıktım. İlk minibüse atlayıp yola çıktım. Fakat minibüs kaza yapmasın mı? Beni hastaneye kaldırmışlar. O yüzden sınava giremedim. 3 gün hastanede yattım. Şimdi tekrardan girmek istiyorum. (12.02.2000)
2- Ben 7 aydan beri öğretmenlik yapıyorum. Antlaşmamda etütlerden de para alacağım belirlenmişti. Fakat son bir ayda birçok etüt vermeme rağmen “Etüt’e para vermiyoruz” gerekçesiyle hakkım olan maaşımı vermediler. Şimdi hakkımı arıyorum. (24.09.2000)
3- Askerliğimi öğrenci olmamdan dolayı tecil ettirmiştim. Öğrenci belgemi kendi ellerimle götürmüştüm akerlik şubesine… Fakat nedense beni askerlik için çağırdılar. Askere öğrenci olduğum için gitmedim ama asker kaçağı da olmak istemiyorum. (31.11.2000)
4- Gençliğimden beri hayalim olan bir işim var. Yıllarca bunun için çalıştım, 5 yıl üniversitede okudum, 2 yıl masterlık yaptım. Tam hedefim olan şirkete girecekken haksız yere bir cinayetten suçlandım ve sicilim kirlendi. Şimdi suçsuz olduğum anlaşıldı ama şirket beni istemiyor, çünkü suçsuz olduğumu bilmiyorlar. Bu hatanın düzeltilmesini istiyorum. (7.07.2000)
5- Çok önemli bir toplantım vardı, ölüm kalım meselesiydi. Fakat aniden dedem öldü. Cenaze telaşı ile toplantıya gidemedim. Şimdi işten atılmam an meselesi… Kesin işten atılıcam çünkü dedemin öldüğüne inanmadılar. (19.06.2000)

HAWAI I have been in Hawai. The weather was perfect, the sea was well.
When I arrived Hawaian girls attached me a necklace of flowers. Then everybody started to dance with music. I felt like a king.
I really relaxed there. It was the best holiday which I lived. I felt very happy, there. Stress wasn’t there for tourists.
You should go there, I think. I am sure that you won’t repent.
It costs 10000 $ but it is worthy. Don’t worry. You can go there by Turkish Airlines planes.

HUCKLEBERRY FINN Huckleberry is a boy who doesn’t love an ordinary life. He doesn’t want to wear clean clothes, have to get up early in the morning and go to the school. He wants a natural life. But in Widow Dougles’ house, he has to have that life which he doesn’t want. He isn’t a conformist boy. His best friend is Tom Sawyer who enjoys adventures. After they find some money which is hidden by robbers, they become rich. They have a gang of robbers. They have many conditions for that. For example when a member of the gang tells their secrets to other people, he will be punished. Huck has a father who is drunk, bad. He doesn’t want Huck to be a literate boy. Because his family members can’t read and write. He’s jealous of his son’s success. He tries to have Huck’s money. Due to Huck’s knowing his father’s character, he gives his money to Judge Thatcher. In his pocket there’s only one dollar. But his father can manage to have it. He orders Huck to give his money to him. He spends the money for drink. He beats Huck. He’s a bad father for Huck. One day his father kidnaps him. They begin to live in a hut on an island. Huck isn’t allowed to go out by himself. When his father goes out, he locks Huck. Widow Douglas wants Huck to return, and sends a man to the hut. The man tries to save him, but can’t manage. His father goes after him with his gun. Then he escapes. According to Huck, although he has to live with his drunk father. It’s a comfortable, free life. When his father is out, he begins to cut a hole. Because he must go out and escape. He kills a pig and takes it back to the hut with him. He puts its blood on the ground. He breaks down the door with an axe. Therefore his father and the others will think that he was killed. He discovers an island and begins to live on it. He has only a canoe and things which he needs. He thinks that he’s only person who lives there, until he sees an other fire. It’s Jim’s fire. Jim is a slave who belongs to Mrs. Watson. He escapes from Mrs. Watson. Because she decides to sell him. When they’re trying to find Huck’s corpse in the river, Jim manages to escape.
When Jim sees Huck, he’s afraid of him. Because he knows that he’s already dead. They tell everything to each other, and begin to live together. The life becomes ordinary. Then Huck decides to go to the town. Because they really wonder about the town. One day, they see a house on the river and have the things which are in that house. In that house there’s a corpse, also. (It’s before the decision) They remember these things and Huck wears as if he was a girl. He goes to a woman’s house in the town. They talk about many things. But Huck is interested in the speech, when the woman talks about the murder and Jim’s runaway. He learns that they’re looking for Jim and the man who can manage to find him, will gain prize. The woman doesn’t believe that he’s a girl. When he goes back, Jim and he go to another island. They have a lot of adventures. For example a danger comes from a steam boat. They can’t find each other in the river. Huck sees a wooden house. He lives in it for a few days. When he can find Jim, he leaves the house.
In fourth chapter, they meet two liars who pretend to be King and Duke. They’re robbers as well. They begin to live with Jim and Huck. Jim and Huck want to escape from them. One day the Duke and the King fight about some money, and it’s a luck for Jim and Huck. But Huck can’t find Jim. He learns that he’s in Phelpses’ house. Mrs. Sally thinks that he’s her nephew Tom. He pretends to be Tom. When Tom comes, he describes himself sid. They have many adventures, when they’re trying to save Jim. He’s actually a free man, not slave. Mrs. Watson gives his freedom, when she’s dying bed. Tom tries to save the free nigger only for an adventure. They write secret letters…etc. They manage to save him, but because of a bullet on Tom’s leg, they have to return Phelpses’ house. When Aunt Polly comes, the truth is learnt by Mrs. Sally. When Huck thinks that his father has his all money, Jim says that the corpse which they saw, when they were on their way, is Huck’s father’s corpse.
