Our customer is a prominent and well-established holding company in Turkey and thanks to the project completed under the consultancy of IBSS, the holding’s master data quality was improved and continuous monitoring was achieved.
Our customer is a well-known and well-established holding company, and has over 20 companies that are actively involved in numerous industries including metal, automotive, packaging, building materials, real estate, logistics, energy, food and service with more than 7,000 employees.
Having operations for almost half a century both in and outside Turkey, our customer needed cleaning and improvements in the quality of its master data in order to ensure an effective data management. In order to achieve this, it was necessary to clean up the scattered, erroneous, repetitive or incomplete data associated with vendors and materials that are present in various SAP and non-SAP systems of the holding company, and to prevent erroneous entries. The holding company relied on the expertise of IBSS to implement this master data management project which was designed to meet these needs.
With the master data cleaning project, which is required for a data management project being executed within the holding company to come up with the desired results, the aim was set as to eliminate data pollution in the holding company’s master data associated with vendors and materials, and to create and manage data from a single environment.
Transformation projects in businesses undertaken especially for the past few years necessitate master data cleaning. This is because the amount of data is increasing exponentially and an effective way to benefit from data is to provide a strong data quality in the first place. Therefore, developing strategies to improve data quality has become vital. Having quality and clean data facilitates making right decisions in business processes and this is the first step to achieve a high-performance company.
IBSS experts started the project by analyzing our customer’s existing data, and by using the SAP Information Steward solution, they cleaned and improved master data associated with vendors and materials. Cleaning of data associated with vendors and materials, checking the duplications, deduplication of data, detection of erroneous entries, prevention of data duplication and prevention of data pollution are among the transactions that were carried out. Consequently, the occupancy rates in vendor master data were checked; incorrect or incomplete entries as well as duplicated entries in vendor information such as tax registration or phone numbers, bank account information, titles were detected and cleaned. Likewise, all master data associated with materials were scanned and incorrect entries detected among data such as product groups, material types were corrected when necessary. Following the master data cleaning, a monitoring environment was installed to maintain data quality and this comprehensive project was successfully completed in a relatively short time period of 5 months.
Thanks to IBSS’s competence about processes and technological expertise, our customer’s Master Data Management project was completed successfully in such a short time. Our customer’s project outcomes include cleaning of scattered data kept in various systems, elimination of duplicated data and storage of these data in a single environment. In addition, some new rules were introduced in order to prevent any decline in data quality so that the improvements achieved to have a higher data quality become sustainable.
